Hockey Arena Improves Employment In Allentown, PA

The construction of a new hockey arena in Allentown, PA has helped to spur on job growth in the city as the arena has hired an estimated 300 local residents to work at the new arena. The job spurt is being credited to the city’s efforts to ensure that local residents had a fair shot at employment and avoid hiring people outside of the Allentown city lines. CareerLink Lehigh Valley reports that of the 445 positions available at the arena, a total of 306 — about 69 percent — have gone to city residents. Nancy Dischinat, executive director of the Lehigh Valley Workforce Investment Board, was quoted by LehighValleyLive.com as saying, “It’s exciting isn’t it?” Dischinat said. “It’s so energizing. This is as exciting as it gets for a downtown, don’t you think?”
